I asked a top lawyer, a QC and sound environmentalist, whether he had any moral qualms about defending corporate environmental offenders. ‘Not at all. A surgeon would operate to save the life of Jack the Ripper. It’s the same thing.’
If Jack the Ripper were in police custody in a secure ward maybe. Saving Jack the Ripper’s life so he could continue a murder spree would be different. Sadly the law is not an even playing field. Corporations give fortunes to top lawyers to save them from justice, not to provide it.
